Dear Friends,
On 31st August we will be holding a communal memorial service for Melvin and Adrian הי"ד in the presence of the Chief Rabbi and other communal leaders. We will also be conducting a special Yom Kippur Yizkor service honouring their memory, and that Yizkor will be recited in Heaton Park for many years to come.
But in Judaism, memory needs to be tangible, positive and life-affirming. We have therefore launched our Unity Sefer Torah Project, a Sefer Torah that will be dedicated in memory of Adrian and Melvin and will be a permanent symbol of the holiness and goodness that they embodied. Every Shabbos, when their Sefer Torah is taken from the Ark and leined from, we will remember them and their righteousness.
Central to this project is the idea of unity. This Sefer Torah must represent the entirety of our community. It will be an expression of their memory, but also an expression of our resilience and our determination to stand together as a community and to continue in our service of Hashem. That is the responsibility of the entire community.
I therefore urge every member of our community to take part in this Sefer Torah by dedicating a parsha, a posuk or a letter, and thereby to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of us as we stand together in memory, resilience and unity.
Please join us as we stand together in remembrance and resilience and together create this lasting tribute.
Good Shabbos,
Rabbi Daniel
