Inter-Shul Football League Update

We were determined that the events of last week were Never Gonna Bring Me (or us) Down and, indeed, we had the Time Of Our Lives, in 7th Heaven, as we returned to the top of the table, beating Vine Street 7-0. It may have been rather wet out there but we could Dance In The Rain.

The game started off fairly tight but two quick goals gave us a grip that we were never going to relinquish. First, Ryan with a backheel to Yaakov, who scored with a rising shot, and then Aron intercepted a throw-out from the keeper to finish.

We kept up the pressure, and it was good to see that we were utilising set pieces, in particular corners, to create chances. Ryan made it 3, cutting inside after receiving the ball from Aron, and then 4 just before half-time, fooling the goalkeeper with a shot from midway inside the Vine Street half.

The second half continued where we had left off, although Sruli, Gary and Darren dealt with anything that Vine Street attempted, restricting them mainly to shots from distance under pressure, and a ‘second’ clean sheet was just reward for how they played.

It also allowed us to counter-attack to good effect, and Aron got our fifth following a Vine Street corner, and he then won the ball back to lead a 2-on-1 and feed Ryan to complete his hat-trick.

We were also able to rotate, Yossi coming on in midfield for Yaakov, as well as playing up front, initially with Ryan and then Aron. He looked very comfortable, allowing us to see what different options are available to us, and came close to scoring himself.

There was still time for some wonderful skill from Ryan to sit the keeper down only to see his shot cleared off the line by a defender, before Yaakov carried the ball downfield to conclude the scoring.

Alex Woolfstein in the Vine Street goal did pull off some brilliant saves but, in truth, once we were in control there was only one team that looked like taking the three points. We still can improve but if we continue to play the way we are doing, perhaps we can look forward to Winning It All.
