The Inter-Shul Football League

Inter-Shul Football League Update

We were determined that the events of last week were Never Gonna Bring Me (or us) Down and, indeed, we had the Time Of Our Lives, in 7th Heaven, as we returned to the top of the table, beating Vine Street 7-0. It may have been rather wet out there but we could Dance In The Rain.

The game started off fairly tight but two quick goals gave us a grip that we were never going to relinquish. First, Ryan with a backheel to Yaakov, who scored with a rising shot, and then Aron intercepted a throw-out from the keeper to finish.

We kept up the pressure, and it was good to see that we … Read More »

A simply sensational performance as we blew OJ away 19-0. Ryan became the first player to hit double figures in a single game as he claimed 10, Aron chipped in with 5 of his own, while debutant Yossi Gitlin, standing in for the unavailable Yaakov, grabbed 4.

Sruli gained his first clean sheet, ably assisted by a classy performance from Darren and Gary. Every time we had the ball we looked dangerous, and some of the interplay between our players was breathtaking, with OJ just not able to cope.

Yossi opened the scoring in the first minute after Darren had superbly got himself out of a tight situation on his own byline and it was one-way traffic fr… Read More »

Inter-Shul Football League Update

Every single one of the team played their part in a thrilling 9-5 win over Young Lubavitch. Both teams came into the game on the back of high scoring results last time out, so this was a fixture to really look forward to, and it did not disappoint.

Young Lubavitch fielded an inexperienced goalkeeper due to illness, and we took an early lead, when Aron shot from just outside the penalty area and then, from a tight angle, made it 2-0. With pressure being applied from the front, particularly from Ryan, we were able to keep attacking. Aron scuffed a shot wide, and then a great passing move, from Sruli to Darren to Aron, onto Yaakov and back to Aron, was lifted over the bar.

Young Lubavitch were lookin… Read More »

Inter-Shul Football League Update

A tougher game than what we have faced over the last few weeks, but a good test and 3 more points on the board, as we triumphed 4-2 over Shrubbs.

The first part of the first half was fairly even, as both sides had chances. With Aron away, Yossi had replaced him up front and he and Ryan were linking up well to create opportunities. Yaakov was playing well in the middle, dropping to help the defence and also supporting the attack. And we were grateful to Jay in goal, himself a late replacement for Sruli, for some smart saves.

We were awarded a penalty, due to a backpass being picked up by the goalkeeper, and Ryan dispatched this to give us a 1-0 lead, and we continued to fashion chances: Yossi carrying the ball well on a number of occasions… Read More »

Inter-Shul Football League Update

What a difference a week makes and what a message we have sent to the rest of the league, as we dismantled Windsor Road 9-2.

With Ryan back from injury, and with not having played this season yet with this team, it understandably took us time to gel, but from the outset it was clear to see that there was more passing and the runs being made were being taken advantage of. We were also able to mix things up more, with the option of playing it out from the back, as well as being able to play it long.

Despite this, it was Windsor Road who took the lead, Hudi once more coming back to haunt us as he rolled the ball in. But we did not let our heads drop and started to put real pressure on, although the keeper was equal to these. … Read More »
