The final two games of Group 2 took place this week, which would determine which two teams would make it through to the semi-final, to join us and Windsor Road.
In the first game, Vine Street won 4-0 against Holy Law and moved to top spot ahead of Whitefield playing the same opponent.
If the first game was straightforward, the second was anything but. Whitefield knew winning by 2 goals would see them through and by 5 would win them the group. But in a topsy-turvy match, Whitefield went 2-0 down, 3-2 up and eventually lost 8-3 to finish outside the qualification places.
But the real drama was to come afterwards. Whitefield accused Holy Law of fielding an unregistered player and, after a day of deliberation, the committee unanimously came to the decision that Holy Law would forfeit the game and Whitefield would be awarded a 3-0 win.
This meant that the semi-final matches would be as follows:
Windsor Road vs Whitefield
Vine Street vs Heaton Park
Kick off for both games is at 9:00pm on Sunday, and these will take place at Maccabi.
