Inter-Shul Football League Update

Friday, 13 September, 2024 - 5:55 pm

Both teams were indebted to their goalkeeper, as a 3-3 classic was played out in our opening game of the new league season against Windsor Road.

A great point against the Summer Cup winners or disappointment not to take all three points? What is not in doubt is that, almost back to full strength, this was a different game to the one we lost against the same opposition in the group stages during the cup competition.

The game started at a frantic pace and never really let up. Windsor Road started on the front foot, drawing some great saves from Sruli and nearly scoring when they hit the post.

We started to put some good passing moves together, and it was us who opened the scoring when Mordy found Aron, who moved it on to Yaakov to finish.

Just after Aron had also hit the post from Gary’s through-ball, Windsor Road equalised, and then took the lead after they had won the ball back.

Despite chances to equalise it remained 2-1 at half-time, but sustained possession at the beginning of the second half saw Aron score a screamer.

Back came Windsor Road, and, despite what looked like a foul, they ran clear to once more take the lead. It could have been worse as they then hit the inside of the post, but at the other end Mordy steered the ball home for our third.

There was still time for more superb saves from both goalkeepers but ultimately a point apiece was probably the fairest result.

Results:

Whitefield 5 - 1 Lubavitch Boys Minyan
Heaton Park 3 - 3 Windsor Road
Adas Yisroel 1 - 9 Holy Law
